Residential

Smit Architect's architectural focus has been residential from the very beginning and still is. A few projects are urban, but most are on the outskirts of cities or in the landscape itself. The main inspiration is the natural environment: the specific place, the slope of the site, the vegetation, the climate, the colour of the rocks, the traditional vernacular buildings or farm sheds with their materials used in the area (culture). These are used as clues to provide an anchor to its setting, yet adapted to modern living.
